Edra Ferguson Invested Into the Order of Canada
(firmenpresse) - OTTAWA, ONTARIO -- (Marketwire) -- 08/09/11 -- On behalf of His Excellency the Right Honourable David Johnston, Governor General of Canada, Mr. Stephen Wallace, Secretary to the Governor General, presented the insignia of Member of the Order of Canada to Ms. Edra Ferguson, during a private ceremony in Toronto, Ontario, on August 9, 2011. Ms. Ferguson was appointed Member of the Order of Canada on May 26, 2011.
Edra Ferguson broke gender barriers in the fields of law and politics. She made newspaper headlines with her achievements, notably as the first woman to run for city council in St. Thomas, Ontario, and as the first judge to be appointed to the newly expanded Ontario Division Court (now called Small Claims Court). Always active in community life, she was integral in establishing Ontario's first blood donor clinic and was the first woman to serve on the Senate of the University of Western Ontario.
