Losses,considerable in part, have been recorded for sales and results of the2nd quarter and thus for the 1st half-year 2009; for the 2ndhalf-year 2009, though, a significant improvement over the first halfof the year is expected.Compared to the prior-year period, sales of the 2nd quarter 2009dropped 45.9% to 25.2 million Euro (Q2/2008: 46.6 million Euro). Thismeans an 11.6% growth over the 1st quarter 2009. The gross profitamounted to 2.8 million Euro in the 2nd quarter 2009 (Q2/2008: 20.4million Euro). Both operating income (-9.6 million Euro) and earningsbefore interest and taxes (EBIT: -9.9 million Euro) were negative inthe 2nd quarter 2009, yet declines in absolute figures were lowerthan the gross profit's decline because of the cost savings initiatedin fall 2008. Due to the extensive measures, considerably more than10 million Euro will be saved in 2009. The net result came to -7.5million Euro in the 2nd quarter 2009 (Q2/2008: net income of 3.6million Euro).Cash and cash equivalents in the first half-year 2009 were onlymarginally reduced in comparison with the end of the year (June 30,2009: 38.4 million Euro vs. December 31, 2008: 42.5 million Euro) dueto the successful management of accounts receivables, accountspayables, inventories, and capital expenditures. The equity ratio of69.9% maintains its high level as well (December 31, 2008: 68.5%)."While the course of the year has so far been disappointing, we arenow observing a pleasing trend relating to orders. The ratio oforders received to sales, the so-called book-to-bill, is clearlyabove one. Against this background we are planning a "black zero" forthe EBIT of the 4th quarter," says Dr. Anton Mindl, CEO of ELMOSSemiconductor AG.
