Things to Do on Lanzarote to Keep the Most Active Holidaymaker Busy

ID: 490803

Once you’ve been dropped at your hotel by your airport transfer, Lanzarote has so many activities on offer you’ll need our guide to work out what to do first.

(firmenpresse) - Lanzarote is one island offering a huge variety of different holiday options. For some it’s the perfect beach retreat, while for others it’s a cultural adventure. But if you crave a bit of high-octane excitement and adrenalin-pumping activity, then a holiday to this island will be perfect for you.

Watersports

Ever since The Sunday Times named Famara Beach as the ‘Best Beach in Europe for Watersports’ people have been flocking there to try their hand (or more strictly speaking their legs) at surfing the challenging reef breaks found there.

But there’s more on offer here than just surfing. In recent years, kite surfers have discovered the steady breezes off Famara are perfect for beginners and experienced kite surfers alike. Other beaches offer a variety of water sports from paddle boarding and kayaking to water-skiing and wakeboarding.

Scuba diving is a popular water sport on the island with a number of dive centres offering guided dives by qualified divers.

For fishing fans there are boat rentals available so that you can pit your wits against some of the larger fish in the sea in a bit of high-stakes sports fishing.

Caving

The volcanic activity which formed much of Lanzarote has left a fascinating network of caves running through the island’s core. Whether you choose to wander through the larger volcanic caves or challenge yourself by exploring some of the more difficult cave systems with their crawl spaces, lava tunnels and even a few swimmable cave lakes, there is something here for every level of caver.

Hiking

The stunning volcanic landscape of Lanzarote makes the island a walker’s paradise. Hike across the strange lunar landscape of hardened lava or climb the gentle slopes of the volcanoes themselves and check out the island’s stunning wildlife. The year-round gentle sunshine of the Canaries makes this the perfect climate for hiking enthusiasts, although always remember to take plenty of water with you, particularly in the hotter summer months.

Climbing

Although there are no true mountains on Lanzarote, there are plenty of boulders which can present a challenging one or two-hour climb. The Los Bolas de Órzola is the closest thing the island has to a true summit and is a good outing for the more experienced climber.

Zip Lining

The fast-paced, action-packed adventure of zip lining through the landscape is still a relatively new leisure activity on the island, but there are now several areas offering zip lining and abseiling down from the boulders and volcanoes to ground level.

4x4 Safari

If you’d rather take in the landscape from the ground but still want to enjoy speed and heart-pumping action, then try a Jeep safari across the off-road volcanic terrain of the beautiful Lanzarote countryside.

How to Get to Lanzarote

Regular flights to Lanzarote’s Arrecife Airport, fly from most UK airports. It’s a good idea to book a driver online to pick you up when you arrive at the airport through a company like Shuttle Direct, offering airport transfers. Lanzarote is a small island and your pre-booked driver will take you directly to your hotel or anywhere on the island.
