(firmenpresse) - If you are travelling from Chamonix to Geneva, it can be useful to know a few things about Geneva airport before you embark on your journey. Since the airport sits directly on a border, part of it is in Switzerland and the other is in France.
Read on to find out all you need to know about how to navigate the French sector of the airport on your way back from your ski holiday.
How to Get to the French Sector
The French sector is located near Ferney-Voltaire and is easily accessible via road. How to Bypass Geneva
Since you are using one particular part of the airport, you will be able to bypass Switzerland, Swiss immigration and customs if you need to, but you will have a longer travel time (it’s about a 2-hour drive from Chamonix to Geneva airport). Please keep in mind that this option is only really useful to those who cannot enter Switzerland for a particular reason, but would still like to use Geneva Airport.
You will have to advise your driver that you wish to bypass Geneva as they will most likely take you on an alternative and quicker route, which goes through the A40 Autoroute Blanche when coming from Chamonix; a beautiful scenic route through the Alps and Jura mountains. You can enjoy a wonderful view of Mont-Blanc while you sit back, relax, and let us do the driving!
When You Get to the French Sector
One of my fellow drivers will drop you off right outside the entrance to the French sector of the airport to assist you with your luggage and ski gear. Although the airport may seem difficult to navigate at first sight, it should be quite simple once your driver points you towards the departure area. Please be aware that this section of the airport is much smaller than the main area, therefore there are limited services available so it is a good idea to bring a book and some food with you!
Don’t forget to check the weather conditions before you embark on your journey from Chamonix to Geneva – just keep an eye on the network map and real-time traffic updates on the ATMB website so you can pre-empt any delays or disruptions.
