Central government payments showed a surplus in August

(Thomson Reuters ONE) - Swedish central government payments showed a surplus of SEK 11.8billion in August. The Debt Office's forecast was a surplus of SEK4.4 billion. The outcome was thus SEK 7.4 billion higher thanexpected. The main part of the difference can be explained bydisplacements of payments between months within the Debt Office's netlending and will thus not affect the annual forecast.Tax payments in August were SEK 2 billion lower than calculated. Thisis counteracted by the fact that disbursements from authorities atthe same time were somewhat lower than expected. The Debt Office's net lending to state agencies was SEK 9 billionlower than estimated. Repo transactions* made by state agenciesaccounted for SEK 6 billion of the difference. These repotransactions will not affect the assessment of the year since theyare included in the forecast for other months. In addition, theforecast included a payment of a loan to Iceland that will be madelater this year.Interest payments on central government debt were SEK 3 billion, which was in line with forecast. For the twelve-month period up to the end of August, centralgovernment payments resulted in a deficit of SEK 64 billion. Centralgovernment debt amounted to SEK 1,050 billion at the end of August. The outcome for September will be published at 9.30 am on 7 October2009.Further information can be obtained from:Sofia Olsson, phone +46 8 613 47 30* Repo transactions by government agencies mean that they sellgovernment securities with a repurchase agreement. The payment of therepos must be deposited in an account at the Debt Office. If thetotal volume of outstanding repos change during the month compared tothe previous turn of the month it will affect the outcome of theborrowing requirement. We make forecasts of the repo transactions onthe basis of the information we receive from the government agencies. However, the forecast are very uncertain since the governmentagencies may alter their plans on a short notice.http://hugin.info/133745/R/1339650/319961.pdfThis announcement was originally distributed by Hugin.
