(Thomson Reuters ONE) - K-food stores and Chiquita donate 137,506 euros to this year's 'GiveChildren a Life' campaign. The collected funds will be used topurchase premature babies' intensive care equipment for all of thefive children's hospitals of Finland's central university hospitals.- Again this year, K-food store customers welcomed the collection andactively contributed to helping premature babies. We're really veryhappy about the results. Children and the young are central to K-foodstores' responsibility work which promotes wellbeing and healthylifestyles, says Kesko Food's Niina Ryynänen, Vice President,Customer Relationships.- The 'Give Children a Life' collection started at the beginning ofMay in all K-food stores. We've donated three cents for every kilo ofChiquita or Chiquita Mini bananas we've sold. In addition, ourcustomers will be filling up the collection boxes of the Associationof Friends of the University Children's Hospitals' at K-food storecheckouts until the end of September, says Toni Pokela, aK-citymarket retailer from Espoo, who will present the cheque and thecollected funds to the Association of Friends of the UniversityChildren's Hospitals in the 'Give Children a Life' concert inHartwall Areena, Helsinki, on 9 September.In 11 years, K-food stores and Chiquita have donated 1,478,150 eurosto the 'Give Children a Life' collection. The funds have been used topurchase, for example, incubators, intensive care monitors andrespirators for the newborn babies' intensive care units at thecentral hospitals.- We're grateful for the significant cooperation we've enjoyed withChiquita and K-food stores over these 11 years, during whichthousands of children have been helped.
