UroTiss Europe GmbH received funding from the EU for commercialisation of its cell therapy product MukoCell®
German biotechnology company receives 1.84 million euros in funding from the "Horizon 2020 EIC SME Instrument" programme
(PresseBox) - UroTiss GmbH, a pharmaceutical company based in Dortmund, Germany has recently received a funding of ?1.84 million through the Horizon 2020 EIC SME-Instrument program. UroTiss GmbH is a member of the innovation network ??Quality Control for Medical Cell Therapy?? organised by EurA AG.
Complying with current Good Manufacturing Practices (GMP), UroTiss manufactures MukoCell® of extreme safety and quality. MukoCell® is the world?s first autologous tissue-engineered cell therapy product for reconstruction of Urethral Strictures. According to EMA MukoCell® is classified as Advanced Therapeutic Medicinal Product (ATMP). The MukoCell®-Therapy procedure is already authorised and approved Germany. The clinical data in a 36-Month follow-up period shows that MukoCell®-Therapy is safe and effective. Through MukoCell®-Therapy withdrawal of tissue form the mouth for reconstruction is not necessary anymore. In addition, it eliminates the side effects and complications associated with tissue grafting from the mouth. MukoCell®-therapy is currently offered to more than 200 patients by 10 specialised clinics in Germany. The surgical technique and the outcomes of the MukoCell®-Therapy are in August 2018 in the Journal of Urology published.
The company have recently received the grant funding (?1.84 million) from the EU smart investment fund Horizon 2020 EIC SME-Instrument to further commercialise MukoCell®. The project TETUS has received one the highest points between 1280 applications and was selected as one the most innovative biomedicine projects in Europe. The project is one the five successful projects in Germany and the only one in the Nordrhein-Westfalen region. The project TETUS starts from 01.08.2018 and supposed to be completed after 24 months. Mr Liebig and his team were significantly supported by the Hamburg office of innovation management company EurA AG for the realisation of the project and acquiring of the grant.
