Solutronic: Big order for IKEA furniture stores
- Solutronic to fit solar installations with inverters at GS-Solar
projects for IKEA furniture stores in UK and Italy
- Nine installations already in operation or close to completion, a
further nine installations being planned
- European rollout planned in medium term
Köngen, 25. August 2011 - Solutronic AG is to fit solar installations with
inverters in ten IKEA furniture stores in the UK. In partnership with
GS-Solar, the first two solar installations were put into place at IKEA
furniture stores in Milton Keynes and Edmonton. The installations in
Southampton and Warrington are nearly finished. The fitting out of six
further locations is in the pipeline and will be completed by March 2012.
This amounts to a total volume of 0.8 MW.
'As a partner of GS-Solar, we are working towards having 5% of the energy
requirement of a furniture store being met by solar energy in the future,'
said Uwe Scobel-Freimüller, Solutronic's board member for sales, marketing
and administration. 'This is another important step for our company in
order to systematically expand our market share.'
As part of the company's 'IKEA goes Renewable' programme, IKEA has a
long-term aim to power its distribution centres in addition to all
furniture stores with renewable energy from 2012. To that end, IKEA is
cooperating with GS-Solar, who provide the thin layer solar GS-55 modules
and is responsible for the installation and maintenance of the systems. As
a partner of GS-Solar, Solutronic provides the SOLPLUS 120 inverters.
Alongside the UK, Solutronic inverters are already being used successfully
in solar installations in IKEA furniture stores in Italy. Three sites with
a volume of 0.7 MW are being prepared in Switzerland. Focus will then
switch to Spain and Portugal.
