Foreign investors placed almost $270 billion in the Moscow economy
(firmenpresse) - From January to June 2021, the accumulated volume of foreign direct investment in the economy of the Russian capital increased by 7% and amounted to $268.5 billion. This information was announced by Vladimir Efimov, Deputy Mayor of the City of Moscow for Economic Policy and Property and Land Relations.
“Foreign investors show a sustained interest in Moscow. Today, the capital accounts for half of all accumulated foreign investments in Russia. According to the latest data from the Central Bank, as of July 1, 2021, its volume reached $268.5 billion. Thus, investors from Germany invested $8.7 billion in the city's economy, from France - $4.9 billion, from Finland - $4.3 billion, from the United States - $3.7 billion, and from Italy - $3.6 billion,” noted the Deputy Mayor.
Asian countries also invest in the capital's economy. This region is a large and strategically important partner of the Russian capital. Over the six months of this year, Singapore invested $2.2 billion in Moscow, Japan - almost $2 billion, Kazakhstan - $1.6 billion, the Republic of Korea - $970 million, and China - $907 million.
Generally, foreigners invest in companies that are engaged in financial and insurance activities, in trade, in the industrial and high technology sector, and in real estate.
In addition, many foreign enterprises are localized in the capital. In Moscow operate the factories of «Coca-Cola HBC ??????» and PepsiCo, German enterprises Siemens, Phoenix Contact RUS, Hyperglobus, British manufacturers Unilever, Diageo and British American Tobacco. American pharmaceutical companies Abbot Laboratories, Johnson & Johnson, Lilly Pharma, Pfizer have their offices in the capital.
«The plant for the production of industrial pumps and pumping equipment of the German concern KSB operates in Moscow. This manufacturer is well known in the capital: it is a supplier of equipment for Mosenergo and Mosvodokanal, it also played an important role in the construction of the Moscow Oil Refinery, «Moskvarium», and «Moscow City» Towers. The production complex of the company opened in the capital in 2019 is mainly equipped with Russian-made machines. The company has created 110 jobs. The Moscow plant of Renault company has the highest level of localization of production among foreign automakers operating in Russia. The enterprise was opened in 1998. Today it is a full-cycle manufacturing of vehicles, where welding, painting and assembly shops operate. The plant has launched the production of such mass models as Logan and Duster, as well as the popular Kaptur and Arkana crossovers,” said Alexander Prokhorov, Head of the Department of Investment and Industrial Policy Government of Moscow.
One of the leading manufacturers of auto body parts LLC "Alpha Avtomativ Technologies", formed by the Japanese corporation of heavy machinery IHI Corporation and PJSC "Plant named after I.A. Likhachev", is also among the enterprises with the participation of foreign business. The company builds a production of components and accessories for motor vehicles in Moscow. The volume of investments in the project within the framework of a special investment contract signed with the capital is more than two billion rubles.
The Chinese company CRCC develops investment projects for the construction of a subway in the city. In 2017 it signed an agreement with JSC «Mosinzhproekt»: the company is building three sections of Metro’s Big Circle Line with the «Aminevskoe Shosse», «Michurinsky Prospekt» and «Vernadsky Prospekt» stations. CRCC is also constructing a section of the new Kommunarskaya metro line: the agreement included the construction of the «Ulitsa General Tyuleneva», «Tyutchevskaya», «Mamyri» stations and a tunnel to «Kommunarka» station. In addition, a Chinese electrical equipment manufacturer CHINT Electric, ZTE company, which specializes in wired and wireless communications and manufactures telecommunications equipment and mobile phones, car dealers Changan, Foton, and Haval, operate in Moscow.
“Foreign business implements a number of projects in the field of healthcare in the Moscow International Medical Cluster, located on the territory of the Skolkovo innovation center. The Israeli consultative and diagnostic center "Hadassah Medical" has already opened here, therapeutic and rehabilitation buildings are at the design stage. A smart hospital of the future «Bundan» of Seoul National University (South Korea) and the French medicine center «Universite de Strasbourg» will also be located on the territory of the cluster,” said Artem Barashev, CEO of the Moscow City Investment Agency.
The city authorities regularly hold meetings with foreign entrepreneurs: they present the investment potential of Moscow, discuss the possibilities of localizing enterprises. Foreign business, along with domestic, can always count on various preferences from the capital. To date, the city has created comfortable conditions for foreign investors. As the result, FDI grows.
