(Thomson Reuters ONE) -
KESKO CORPORATION PRESS RELEASE 22.09.2011 AT 14.30
For the third time, Kesko has been included as a member in the highly valued
FTSE4Good index focusing on responsible investment. In the latest comparison,
Kesko was given the highest points for its work for curbing climate change.
FTSE4Good is a widely recognised index focusing on responsible investment. The
included companies must meet stringent social, environmental and governance
criteria, and they are assessed in terms of environmental management, climate
change, human & labour rights, supply chain labour standards and corporate
governance.
Kesko's overall score in the FTSE4Good index assessment was 92/100. Kesko's work
for curbing climate change was given 5 points on a scale 0-5. For supply chain
labour standards and corporate governance Kesko received 4 points.
- Kesko was now included in the index for a third time. This is an independent
proof of our comprehensive, high-quality and efficient work for sustainable
development in a changing environment. Responsibility plays an important role in
investors' decision-making. Responsibility is visible in K-stores' everyday
operations and increasingly more often, it affects customers' purchasing
decisions, says Merja Haverinen, Kesko's Senior Vice President for Corporate
Communications and Responsibility.
One of Kesko's responsibility programme objectives is curbing climate change
In accordance with its responsibility programme, Kesko wants its operations to
contribute to curbing climate change. Kesko has signed the trading sector energy
efficiency agreement and committed to saving 65 GWh by the end of 2016.
Kesko's store site building relies on sustainable development, environmentally
friendliness and energy efficiency. K-food stores gain savings by adding lids to
chest freezers, using the condensation heat from refrigeration units and fitting
advertising signage with LED technology.
Kesko is included in several sustainability indexes
Kesko is also included in the Dow Jones sustainability indexes DJSI World and
DJSI Europe. In the SAM Sustainability Yearbook 2011, Kesko's sustainability
work qualified in the Silver Class in the Food & Drug Retailers sector as in the
previous year.
Kesko has ranked on the Global 100 Most Sustainable Corporations of the World
list since 2005. On the list published in 2011, Kesko's ranking was 26th. The US
Ethisphere Institute listed Kesko among the World's Most Ethical Companies in
March 2011.
