The State of Tomorrow
(PresseBox) - Many people consider public administration to be outdated, cumbersome and a necessary evil. Florian Stupp wants to change that. With his Non-Governmental Organization (NGO) ‘Public Makers’, he aims to make it easier for young talent to access the public sector. He has been so successful in this endeavor that he was awarded the ‘Young Leaders in GovTech Award’ by the ‘Handelsblatt’ newspaper
Stupp is currently studying for a bachelor's degree in Information Engineering at the TUM Campus Heilbronn. With Public Makers, the young man opens new ways for students and young people to get in touch with the public sector. The award is both confirmation and motivation for him: “The award fills me with great pride and gratitude. At the same time, it sends an important signal: we need to involve students and other young talent much more closely in the modernization of the state and the topic of GovTech.”
Harnessing Technological Potential
And since actions speak louder than words, Stupp founded the NGO Public Makers in 2024. “As a state and society, we face immense challenges: from demographic change to an administration that is only just beginning to harness technological potential on a large scale,” says Stupp. These are major challenges that the young generation wants to solve: “Through educational formats and joint projects with the administration, we unleash innovation potential and inspiring students from all disciplines to create the state of tomorrow.”
Stupp is acquiring the necessary skills at TUM Campus Heilbronn: “Here, I am learning exactly what the state often lacks: how to translate technological possibilities into real solutions.” Although he is currently in the middle of writing his bachelor's thesis, Stupp invests a lot of time in Public Makers. “We have already been able to inspire over 400 students throughout Germany with our topics – with hackathons, workshops, boot camps, co-creation formats and much more.”
Bureaucracy is Vital
The first solutions developed in formats such as the START Public Makers Lab have already been translated into real-world applications. For the award winner, one topic is at the top of the agenda: “Digitalization enables a shift towards a proactive state that recognizes needs and offers services – a so-called ‘push government’.” However, it is not a magic bullet, says Stupp: “Bureaucracy has an image problem, but it fulfils a vital function: it creates order and transparency.” So, the tasks are not getting any less. We congratulate Florian Stupp on his success and wish the ”Young Leader” continued motivation for a more modern state.
