Curcas Oil N.V. starts the process for obtaining the ISCC-certification as
one of the first producers of Jatropha biofuel
- The subsidiary Alternative Energy Manufacturing Ltd. is registered by
ISCC in Cologne, Germany
- Certification confirms sustainable production process and enhances
sales opportunities
As a first step, Curcas-Oil N.V. has registered its Thai subsidiary
'Alternative Energy Manufacturing Ltd.' with the International
Sustainability and Carbon Certification e.V. (ISCC) in Cologne, Germany on
August 16, 2011. 'TÜV Rheinland Cert GmbH' has been charged with the
auditing. Once the Thai subsidiary has obtained certification (planned in
Q4/2011), the other subsidiaries of Curcas Oil N.V., 'Curcas Oil
Philippines Inc.' and 'PT Pengembangan Jarak Indonesia' will complete the
preliminaries for the auditing, using its own personnel with the know-how
from the Thai pilot project. 'TÜV Rheinland CERT GmbH' will be also
appointed as certification authority for other subsidiaries. Both of the
subsidiaries in the Philippines and Indonesia should be certified by the
middle of 2012.
Underlying requirement of the certification process is the sustainable
production of biomass set by the EU in 2009 (Renewable Energies Directive
(2009/28/EU)). Germany has already implemented this EU directive into
national legislation (biofuel sustainability regulation and the biomass
electricity sustainability ordinance). In compliance with this, companies,
who want to receive remuneration through the German Renewable Energy
Sources Act (EEG) or who wish to credit to the biofuel quota, are required
to verify, that their commodities are produced under the sustainability
ordinances, as of January 1, 2011. ISCC (www.iscc-system.org) implements
these statutory requirements at all stages of the production process. With
the certification of its subsidiaries, Curcas Oil N.V. is in compliance
with the law in regard to sustainability. Due to the demonstrably
sustainable cultivation, the company improves the sales potential of the
products.
