ORLive Program Corrects Common Birth Defects

(firmenpresse) - WEST HARTFORD, CT -- (Marketwire) -- 10/11/11 -- BroadcastMed, Inc.'s surgical web portal ORLive.com is premiering another program in a long line of successful web content from Akron Children's Hospital. The upcoming program, in the monthly series comes from Akron Children's Plastic and Reconstructive Surgery Center, focuses on aural atresia (absence of an ear canal) and microtia (an underdeveloped exterior ear). Both of these birth defects affect approximately one in 6,000 babies each year and are more common in boys. Plastic Surgeon Ananth Murthy, the director of plastic and reconstructive surgery at Akron Children's Hospital, will be performing a reconstructive ear surgery. He is currently involved in research on how to grow new ears from small pieces of cartilage.
