Canadian Staff Union Ratifies New Contract With CUPE
(firmenpresse) - OTTAWA, ONTARIO -- (Marketwire) -- 10/22/11 -- Members of the Canadian Staff Union (CSU) have ratified a new contract with the country's largest union.
CSU President Peter Paulekat says, "In electronic voting this week, our members voted 78% in favour of accepting a new, four-year deal with the Canadian Union of Pubic Employees.
"We are pleased to be able to put this round of bargaining behind us. With the help of a very committed Bargaining Committee and strong resolve from our membership across the country, we were able to sort through some very tough issues, including the continued health of our staff pension plan, improvement to our Long Term Disability provisions, seniority issues and more."
The deal runs from January 1, 2010 through to December 31, 2013. The union had recommended acceptance of the deal in a tentative agreement which was reached on October 2. CUPE's National Executive Board is expected to vote on the agreement on October 27.
The CSU represents 405 Servicing and Specialist Reps in every province except Quebec, as well as administrative and technical staff at the union's head office in Ottawa.
