San Francisco Parlor Opera Production of Carlisle Floyd's "Susannah" Opens November 5th, 2011
(firmenpresse) - SAN FRANCISCO, CA -- (Marketwire) -- 10/25/11 -- production of Carlisle Floyd's "Susannah" opens November 5th, 2011. Carlisle Floyd's "Susannah" is a piece of theatre that inspires the audience to look inside themselves and think about their lives, their society, their thoughts, their reasons, and their ideals. This production will explore the impenetrable darkness so often burgeoning behind closed doors in small, narrow-minded towns, such as Floyd's New Hope Valley. Against the backdrop of recent media attention to bullying and the effects of harsh, judgmental actions, this piece transcends Rural Town USA and brings these issues to our own front door.
San Francisco Parlor Opera's production will present images of intense shadows and revealing silhouettes... testing traditional ideas of what an opera should be or look like, yet still allowing the audience to have an emotionally moving experience.
San Francisco Parlor Opera is a small opera company based in San Francisco that performs operas in their original language to small audiences in private homes and other intimate settings. SF Parlor Opera was founded in 2008 and is now run by Cole Grissom and Patricia Urbano who also serve as Artistic Directors of the Company. In its short lifespan of four years and seven productions, SF Parlor Opera has sold out performance after performance and been celebrated by critics, audience members and industry insiders alike:
"But for all the easygoing bonhomie on display, Saturday night's performance demonstrated that Parlor Opera takes its projects perfectly seriously. Aside from a few discreet nips and tucks in the overture, 'Don Giovanni' was done complete, in the original Italian... and the singing was often splendid, especially from soprano Patricia Soria Urbano (one of the company's co-directors) as an alert, dramatically vivid Donna Elvira..."
Joshua Kosman
San Francisco Chronicle
"You have created something magical and incredibly effective with very few resources. The experience of interacting with opera when you are just feet from the singers is very different from what happens in a large opera house, and you create a connection with the audience that is powerful and very moving."
Matthew Shilvock
Assistant General Director of San Francisco Opera
Performances are slated for November 5th, 10th and 12th at 7p.m. All performances will be at the Historic Zellerbach Mansion located at 1550 Fell Street, San Francisco, CA 94117. Tickets are $65 each and are available for purchase at For more information please email SF Parlor Opera at .
