Providing Executive Management Career Opportunities for Former Enlisted Veterans

(firmenpresse) - WASHINGTON, DC -- (Marketwire) -- 11/10/11 -- Efiia Cares, a not-for-profit 501(c)(3) organization today announced the launch of an innovative pilot program: The Veteran Fellowship Program. The program provides former enlisted veterans with longer term, higher quality employment opportunities. Unlike the growing number of programs that support veteran employment by providing one-time, standard placement services, this new fellowship program will provide veterans with executive management opportunities and ongoing training and support services at some of the largest, most respected firms in the country, including Booz Allen Hamilton.

"We recognized the growing need for high quality employment opportunities for veterans, and our team wanted to take a more integrated approach to employment and education," said Kelly O'Connor, President, Efiia Cares. "Our goal is to develop a scalable, repeatable fellowship model that is attractive to the private sector and can be deployed nationwide. We are starting with a pilot program this year and have some great partners, including Booz Allen Hamilton, who are helping us to refine and improve the model."

This program is unique in that it targets former enlisted veterans, as opposed to officers, for executive management career opportunities. The program also takes a more holistic approach to veteran employment and education by leveraging the GI Bill while providing ongoing training and support through the year; rather than simply placing candidates in immediate job openings via websites and traditional placement services.

The pilot program is similar to an executive MBA program model, whereby large companies agree to hire fellows as full-time employees, but allow some schedule flexibility for fellows to attend classes on a part-time basis. Education programs must be degree or certification programs, but are not limited to MBA programs; undergraduate programs are also acceptable.

"Booz Allen is pleased to participate in the Efiia Cares Fellowship Program because it is another effective way to help enlisted veterans take the next step in their career path and fully leverage the skills they've developed," said Pamela Hardy, Senior Associate People Services, Booz Allen Hamilton. "We know from experience that service men and women have deep expertise -- from leadership to functional skills such as logistics, technology, analytics and strategy -- and they are skills that we and other organizations value. We look forward to contributing to the success of this pilot."
