Taiwan Excellence successfully concludes search for runners for the Berlin Marathon
Running enthusiasts selected for Team Taiwan Excellence – Preparations for the historic marathon are in full swing!
Munich/Taipei, 14 August 2023 - Taiwan Excellence, the official partner of the 49th BMW Berlin Marathon, has successfully completed its extensive search for runners for this year's legendary race on 24 September. During the two-month campaign, running enthusiasts from all over Europe were invited to apply for the coveted spots at the sporting event. Now the Team Taiwan Excellence has been determined, consisting of 20 marathon runners from various European nations who will run the race through the capital under the motto "Run with Taiwan. Strive for Excellence." The runners will be professionally supported by team coach and running expert Robin Siegert during the preparation phase for the race. The runners embody the message of Taiwan Excellence, the pursuit of a common goal through shared values. Taiwan Excellence is an initiative of the Taiwan Bureau of Foreign Trade (BOFT) and the Taiwan External Trade Development Council (TAITRA).
The pan-European campaign in recent weeks has been a great success and has achieved excellent results. Through its own multilingual marathon website, Taiwan Excellence awarded coveted free entry slots for the BMW Berlin Marathon. Running enthusiasts from European countries were invited to apply to realize their dream of participating in the world-famous race. Additional online and offline activities through various marketing channels supported the initiative.
A total of 390 enthusiastic people applied to join Team Taiwan Excellence, an increase of 98% compared to 2019. The applicant pool boasts a notable presence from Germany, Poland, the Czech Republic, the United Kingdom, France, Spain, and other countries. Among the applicants who have expressed interest in joining the team, 70% are between the ages of 31 to 50, showing their unwavering passion for the prestigious marathon.

Brian Lee, Director of TAITRA's Strategic Marketing Department, expresses his satisfaction with the campaign's resonance: "We are thrilled with the impressive response to our European campaign." Supporting the BMW Berlin Marathon once again this year has proven to be a wise decision, as the numerous applications underscore the role of sports as a unifying element in today's world. Looking ahead to the weeks leading up to the September run, Lee acknowledges that marathon preparation extends beyond physical training.
Exciting preparation weeks professionally supported
During the marathon, two Taiwan Excellence hotspots will provide encouragement and support to the runners. At the 40-kilometer mark, a final boost of motivation awaits before they cross the finish line. The runners will be greeted by cheers from spectators and an engaging program as they pass under the Taiwan Excellence arch, bringing them closer to their shared goal.
