Award at Asia Communication Awards
* Heliocentris energy solutions contribute significantly to du's green
goals
Berlin, 16 July 2013: Heliocentris' customer, telecom operator du, won the
Green Award at the 2013 Asia Communication Awards, particularly for the
success of the installed Heliocentris' hybrid solutions at 137 of its Base
Transceiver Station (BTS) sites. The award has been given in association
with the CommunicAsia 2013, Asia's largest integrated info communication
technology event.

have led to this win,' Heliocentris' CEO Ayad Abul-Ella commented. 'We look
forward to continue our contributions to du's green strategy with further
energy saving innovations to come.'

The Asia Communication Awards recognize the achievements of Asian telecoms
companies and the individuals responsible for the innovations, achievements
and great new services that are helping to build tomorrow's industry. The
awards ceremony was held along with a gala dinner at the Conrad Centennial
Hotel, Singapore. du's Director of Electro Mechanical Division AbdulMajid
Harmoodi, received the award on behalf of the organization.
du began converting its off-grid sites to Heliocentris smart energy hybrid
solutions in 2011, in line with the UAE Government's sustainable energy
strategy.
The hybrid power solution uses a combination of cyclic batteries and diesel
generators, with a smart energy management controller to switch from one to
the other upon the depletion of the battery. Once the batteries are
recharged the controller stops the diesel generator, thus saving on fuel.
du's annual diesel consumption is now down by 1.8 million liters, meaning
it produces 4,500 tons less CO2 emissions than it once did.
du plans to convert 72 more sites in 2013. By the end of 2014, du estimates
a total reduction in diesel consumption of 6 million liters or 15,000 tons
of CO2 emissions.
