Pöyry awarded EUR 1.2 million environmental consultancy and assistance services for the Swiss Federal Roads Office

Pöyry's Water and Environment Business Group has been awarded a EUR 1.2 million
environmental consultancy and assistance services contract by the Swiss Federal
Roads Office (FEDRO). The work started in February 2011 and will last until
2018.
The project covers an 8 km long section of the national highway network in the
eastern part of Switzerland, which has been under operation for more than 20
years and includes a 6 km long tunnel.
The aim of the technical works is to adapt the road to the latest requirements
and to allow the usability of the whole system for the next 25 years. In order
to increase the safety of the tunnel, the following project elements are, among
others, designed and implemented: a parallel safety tunnel serving as an escape
route, the modernisation of the tunnel ventilation, the extension of the
emergency exits and the improvement of the safety system.
For this project, Pöyry will hold the overall environmental staff function for
the FEDRO over the total project period. Additionally, Pöyry will elaborate
three environmental impact assessments and three environmental impact
estimations reports. During the 5-year construction phase, Pöyry will act as
environmental site supervisor, inspecting the compliance of the works with all
legal requirements and controlling the implementation of all environmental
project elements defined.
