Pöyry to provide technical assistance for Panama Metro

Pöyry's Urban & Mobility Business Group has been awarded a contract to provide
specialised technical assistance to the consortium in charge of project
management for the design and construction of Line 1 of the Panama Metro. The
value of assignment is EUR 2.1 million.
Pöyry's services are related to the implementation of the whole metro system.
The project began in July 2011 and is expected to be completed by June 2014.
The Panama Metro will be the first to be built in Central America. Pöyry's
previous advisory services for the project have included the basic design,
bidding process and support during the award to the construction consortium.
These were completed in excellent time.
The metro line when complete will be 13.7 kilometres long and have 11 stations.
Seven kilometres of the line will be underground and five on an elevated track.
The new metro line will make a very significant difference to the almost
800 000 Panamanians who use public transport every day. It will increase the
quality of life of the inhabitants, by improving the mobility within the whole
city and increasing the safety of public transport. At the same time the metro
will reduce the pollution produced by the existing obsolete transport system.
