Media Advisory: Governor General to Deliver Opening Remarks at 50th Anniversary of the CBC Massey Lectures

(firmenpresse) - OTTAWA, ONTARIO -- (Marketwire) -- 10/24/11 -- His Excellency the Right Honourable David Johnston, Governor General of Canada, will deliver the opening remarks at the final lecture celebrating the 50th Anniversary of the CBC Massey Lectures. The event will be held at Koerner Hall, in Toronto, on Wednesday, October 26, 2011, at 7:30 p.m.

At approximately 7:40 p.m., the Governor General will deliver a speech on his appreciation of the Massey Lectures as a forum for ideas and insight. He will also address the role and importance of communication as the key to the success of our diverse nation, and invite Canadians to seek new horizons of knowledge and innovation through communication and collaboration.

About the Massey Lectures

The CBC has commissioned the annual Massey Lectures since 1961. The lectures were named for Vincent Massey, who had, at the time, recently completed a seven-year term as governor general of Canada. The Right Honourable Vincent Massey is notable as the first Canadian to hold the post, but it was the work he did before becoming governor general that inspired the CBC to name the new lecture series after him.
